Connection and testing
We connect the shower, check it heats and switches correctly and test the circuit, then issue the relevant certificate for the work under BS 7671.

Can I fit a more powerful shower on my existing cable?
Sometimes, but often not. Each kW rating needs a minimum cable size and breaker, and older circuits were usually sized for lower powered showers. Overloading the cable can cause overheating at connections. Send us the model and we will check your existing circuit before you buy, if possible.
What affects the cost of a shower installation?
The main factors are whether the existing cable is suitable, the distance and route from the consumer unit to the bathroom, whether there is space in the consumer unit, and how easily cables can be hidden. A like-for-like swap is much simpler than running a new circuit through a finished house.
Do you do the plumbing too?
We handle the electrical side of the installation: the circuit, isolation switch, connection and testing. The water supply and pipework are a plumbing job, and we regularly coordinate with plumbers and bathroom fitters around Cardiff so the electrics are ready at the right stage.
What regulations apply to shower wiring?
Shower circuits must follow BS 7671, including the bathroom zone rules and RCD protection. A new circuit is also notifiable under Building Regulations. You receive an Electrical Installation Certificate for a new circuit, or a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate for alterations to an existing one.
How long does it take?
