Is it a legal requirement to replace an old fuse box?
There is no general law forcing homeowners to replace an older board, but a fuse box without RCD protection falls well short of current safety standards. If you are adding circuits, an EV charger or a shower, the existing board may need upgrading anyway to protect the new work properly.
How long will the power be off?
The power is off while the old board is removed and the new one connected, usually for most of a working day. We tell you in advance, and plan the work so fridges and freezers are off for as short a time as possible. Hidden faults can add time, which is why we test first.
What affects the cost of a consumer unit replacement?
