Electrician in Merthyr Tydfil: Cardiff Electrician is run by Jorge Simoes, a qualified and insured electrician based in Cardiff since 2014. We regularly travel to Merthyr Tydfil for rewires, consumer unit replacements, electric showers, heaters and fault finding.
Merthyr Tydfil is at the head of the Taff Valley, and we regularly travel up the A470 from our Cardiff base to work there. We do not have a Merthyr office, so we plan our visits to give you a reliable appointment.
Merthyr grew rapidly as an iron and coal town, and many of its streets, from Dowlais and Penydarren to Troedyrhiw and Abercanaid, are lined with older terraced houses. In homes like these it is common to find wiring that has been patched over generations, an old fuse box and not enough sockets. Full rewires, consumer unit upgrades and fault finding are the jobs we are asked for most. The town's post-war estates, such as the Gurnos, also have many homes with dated consumer units.
Electric showers are a popular upgrade across the area, and we also wire electric heaters and radiators on suitable circuits. Welsh rented homes need mains-wired interlinked smoke alarms on every storey, and we fit these for landlords, along with extractor fans to help with damp and condensation. All work is carried out to BS 7671.

Electrician in Merthyr Tydfil: FAQs
Do you really come up to Merthyr Tydfil from Cardiff?
Yes. We regularly travel up the A470 to Merthyr Tydfil and nearby communities such as Dowlais, Troedyrhiw, Aberfan and Treharris. We do not have a local office, so we plan visits ahead. Call 029 2000 1399 for a free, no-obligation quote.
What are the signs my Merthyr home needs rewiring?
Common signs include an old fuse box with rewireable fuses, rubber or fabric-covered cables, scorch marks or warm sockets, flickering lights and frequent tripping. Many older terraces in the town show at least one of these. We can inspect your installation and give honest advice.
Can you fit a more powerful electric shower?
Yes, but a higher-rated shower often needs a thicker cable and its own protected circuit. We check your existing supply and consumer unit first, then explain exactly what is needed. All bathroom work follows BS 7671 zone rules, and your quote is free.

I had a number of small electrical jobs for Jorge to do. He completed everything quickly, professionally and to a high standard. Jorge was very polite and helpful and clearly takes pride in his work. I would 100% call him if I need more electrical work doing.
I have been a private landlord 25 years and can count the reviews I've left on one hand. I've known Jorge several years. He is a trusted professional, timely and charges competitive rates.
We initially asked Jorge to help us after being let down by another electrician, and he was only too happy to help make some bad work safe... Jorge always explains what is going on and helps us understand more about how electrics work. He is thorough, leaves no mess behind and very reliable.
