EV Charger Installation in Pontypridd: A home EV charger installation involves fitting a wall-mounted charge point on a dedicated circuit, checking the property's supply can take the extra load and making sure the earthing arrangement is safe for vehicle charging. Cardiff Electrician installs home charge points to BS 7671 and certifies the work.
EV Charger Installation for Pontypridd homes
74% of households in Pontypridd have a car or van, and 41% of homes are detached or semi-detached, which often means off-street parking where a home charger can go. We check your supply and consumer unit first, so the charger works safely alongside everything else in the house.
Housing figures: ONS Census 2021.
Charging at home is the cheapest and most convenient way to run an electric car, but a charge point is a big continuous load. Before fitting one we need to know your main fuse size, what else runs at the same time, where the consumer unit is and how the property is earthed. Those details decide what the installation looks like.
Jorge surveys your driveway or garage, the cable route and the supply, then explains the options in plain terms. We fit the charge point where it is practical for your car and parking, run a dedicated circuit and set it up so you can start charging the same day.
Signs you need it
- You have bought or ordered an electric or plug-in hybrid car
- You are charging from a household socket and extension lead
- You want faster, safer overnight charging on your driveway
- You are building a garage or driveway and want to plan ahead
- Your business wants charging for staff or company vehicles
What's included
Supply and load check
We check your main fuse, existing loads and consumer unit to confirm the supply can handle a charge point, and whether load management is needed.
Earthing assessment
BS 7671 has specific rules for EV charging and earthing. We assess your earthing arrangement and add an earth electrode or other protection where your installation needs it.
Dedicated circuit
The charge point gets its own circuit from the consumer unit, with suitable protection and cable routed neatly, externally where needed, to the mounting position on the wall.
Set-up and certification
We commission the charger, check it communicates with your car, show you how to use it and issue certification for the installation.

Questions about ev charger installation in Pontypridd
Do you do ev charger installation in Pontypridd?

Can any home have an EV charger?
Most homes with off-street parking can, but the supply and earthing need checking first. If your main fuse is small or you already run high loads such as an electric shower and cooker, load management may be needed. Cables must not trail across a public pavement, so off-street parking makes a big difference.
What affects the cost of an EV charger installation?
The charger you choose, the distance from the consumer unit to the parking spot, whether cables run through walls or along the outside, whether the consumer unit needs upgrading and any earthing work. A short, direct route is much simpler than a long run to a detached garage.
Do I need to tell my network operator?
Yes, new EV charge points generally need to be notified to the distribution network operator, the company that runs the local power network in South Wales. We explain what is needed for your installation and how it is handled when we quote.
How long does installation take?
Most home installations take a single visit, with the power off for part of it. Longer cable runs, groundwork to a detached garage or a consumer unit upgrade add time. We confirm the timescale when we quote and aim to offer same-week appointments where possible.

I had a number of small electrical jobs for Jorge to do. He completed everything quickly, professionally and to a high standard. Jorge was very polite and helpful and clearly takes pride in his work. I would 100% call him if I need more electrical work doing.
I have been a private landlord 25 years and can count the reviews I've left on one hand. I've known Jorge several years. He is a trusted professional, timely and charges competitive rates.
We initially asked Jorge to help us after being let down by another electrician, and he was only too happy to help make some bad work safe... Jorge always explains what is going on and helps us understand more about how electrics work. He is thorough, leaves no mess behind and very reliable.
